Hayes planning to run again

The Town of Montgomery again visited the idea of instituting rules of conduct and decorum for Town Board meetings and, after some discussion, adopted the rules. According to Town of Montgomery Supervisor Mike Hayes, the rules, which were first visited in August, were put off when the budget process began. Their adoption, said Hayes, should not affect the public’s voice. “I don’t think the rules prevent the public from speaking or making their thoughts known,” said Hayes. “I think they are fair, common sense rules.” Full Article

Town approves funding for Colden site

The Colden Mansion ruins, at the corner of Route 17K and Stone Castle Road in the Town of Montgomery, is a state and nationally registered historic site. On Dec. 18, the Town Council approved funding for improvements to the site. Full Article

City facing $1M CDBG deadline

When the Newburgh City Council holds its first meeting of the new year, there’s no question about what one of the first orders of business will be: a 41-page federal audit accusing the city of mishandling millions of dollars in loans and grants intended to improve life of the city’s poorest citizens. Two arrested in graffiti bust

According to City of Newburgh police, two Newburgh men are suffering for their art. Sgt. Christopher Swenson and Dispatcher Christine Mann were working in the communications center of the police dept. on Dec. 29 when they observed suspicious activity at 97 Fullerton Ave, the Goldback Deli, on the Bush Ave street surveillance camera. According to police, the Goldback Deli is a frequent target for graffiti artists. Full Article

Search renewed for missing Brooklyn woman

The search for Laura Garza, the 25-year-old Brooklyn woman who vanished Dec. 3 after being seen with a convicted sex offender at a Manhattan nightclub, resumed Monday and Tuesday. Full Article

Marlborough sets hearing on ethics law

The Marlborough Town Board recently introduced a new code of ethics and has scheduled a public hearing on it at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 12, just prior to their regular board meeting. Board members indicted they hope to pass it that evening. Full Article

Storm’s aftermath kept fire department busy

Highland fire Chief Dan Bassanese said it is always difficult to predict what his crew will face when an ice storm hits. The recent two-day storm kept his company busy for more than 48 hours, beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11 when the first call for help came in. From that moment on his crew worked nearly non-stop. Full Article
